Fiber Artist/Quilter
Color, geometry, storytelling – as a contemporary quilt artist I use fabric as a story telling medium. My fiber art pieces often tell the story of women around the world and key issues that affect their lives. At times, I combine textiles from other cultures with American traditional piecing patterns to create a collaborative work that celebrates the international language of fiber shared by women in so many communities. In more traditional pieces, the interplay of color and form combine to move the eye around the quilt. I teach quilting techniques at Knit One Quilt Too in Barrington, lecture on textiles around the world to regional quilt guilds, longarm quilt tops for customers and make custom quilts. Together with my husband, Dick Wilbur, we manage a project “Quilt for Change” which uses challenge art quilt exhibits to inspire social change. The exhibits have been displayed at the United Nations in Switzerland and New York, have traveled with major quilt shows in the U.S. and at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA.
