ALLISON NEWSOME, Sculptor
Visit Warren’s internationally acclaimed sculptor Allison Newsome’s Art Night open studio at 74 Baker St., off Water St. on May 29th. From the West Coast to the East, from Latin America to her island home on Prudence Island, Allison works in a distinctive style to create intricate ceramic and bronze sculptures that explore “the wilderness and garden as a state of mind”, and the impact of human beings on the environment.
Allison’s thought provoking sculptures often incorporate a compelling figure or present ceramics as vehicles of transport, commerce, and narrative traditions. Her palette ranges from earth tones to vibrant colors, and texture plays an important role. Often referred to as a “Plein Air Sculptor,” she is often seen sketching with wet clay on site, outdoors. These sketches in clay are often left to return to the environment. Allison’s “Budapest or Bust” closet sale to help raise money for Budapest trip where she will be exhibiting her work bronze and ceramic sculpture through the month of June. http://beatricewood.com/newsome_exhibition_2013.html |
