The Baptist Church in Warren to Host Otis Read & Shape Note Singers June 8th

Warren, RI: The Baptist Church in Warren will host Otis Read and the Shape Note Singers June 8th at 3pm.  The Newman Congregational Church Choir of East Providence under the direction of Geoffrey Greene, as well as an assembled “Shape Note” choir of various Rhode Islanders (including at least 7 residents of Warren!) will present a concert of the “Music of Daniel Read”.  The concert will include some between song talking of Daniel Read’s life and times (late 1700’s-early 1800’s). Daniel Read was an avid teacher of hymn singing, and published seven hymnals that included ninety of his own hymns as well as those composed by others of his day. Among members of the “Shape Note’ choir is Daniel’s great, gt, gt, gt nephew Otis Read, a musician, who is writing a biography of his famous relative.   Free Will Offering will be taken.  Additional details can be found at http://baptistchurchinwarren.com and https://www.facebook.com/events/481644348635391/?ref_newsfeed_story_type=regular
